On August 7, 8 and 9, we held our Spring-Green National Training Conference at the Hilton Chicago Indian Lakes Resort in Bloomington, IL. We had 64 franchisees and managers along with their families that attended as well as 24 vendors and 22 Spring-Green employees. We learned, discussed, networked, and still found time to have some fun along the way. We kicked off the conference on Wednesday afternoon by conducting sessions on efficiency and profitability. We ended the day playing a team building game called the Drag Race Challenge. All attendees were split into small groups and their task was to build a small race car, similar to a pinewood derby car, and compete against each other to see whose car was the most cost effective, creative or fastest. As you can see from the picture, the activity was fast and furious. There were 16 cars built, and after four heats of four cars, one car emerged as the victor. It was a great time and everyone put forth their best effort to build the fastest car. I do have to say that some groups opted to build the most creative car, so speed was not necessarily their overall goal. Thursday and Friday were filled with discussions on products, equipment, technology updates, marketing ideas, motivational speeches that all focused on our theme of Building for Profit. By bringing together franchisees from over 20 states, the sharing of ideas was the greatest take away of all. A big part of the conference was our Silent Auction. All our vendors and suppliers donated items that were bid on by the conference attendees. The money we raised was given to The Fisher House Foundation who builds on-site housing at military hospitals to provide lodging for the families of current military members or veterans who are hospitalized. The Silent Auction raised $20,000 for this great cause. The conference is over and we are back at the offices, getting ready for the fall. We learned a lot, laughed a lot, and went away with a positive feeling for the green industry.
