Remove Creeping Bentgrass & Re-sod the Same Day
The following question came from a homeowner concerned about laying down new sod the same day he removed creeping bentgrass from his lawn. Harold Enger, Spring-Green’s Director of Education, shares tips for safe re-sodding.
Question:
“Can I use a sod cutter to remove bentgrass and re-sod the same day?” —Mr. Murray
Answer:
Mr. Murray,
Thank you for sending in your question. Yes, you can remove creeping bentgrass and re-sod your lawn the same day. I do suggest that you go about 12 inches beyond the bentgrass patch when cutting out the bentgrass patches. Bentgrass reproduces by sending out runners, called stolons, that will creep through the existing grass, but they are not very visible when small. I also suggest that you break up the soil before laying the sod to help the new root system get established.
