22nd Year Spring-Green Lawn Care Joins Renewal and Remembrance
For the 22nd year in a row, the National Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) held their annual Renewal and Remembrance service project at Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, VA on Monday, July 16, 2018. There were over 400 Green Industry Professionals from across the US that worked together to honor the 400,000 of America’s military veterans and their spouses buried at Arlington National Cemetery.
Spring-Green has participated every year since 1996. Renewal & Remembrance first began in 1996 with only 50 volunteers and has grown significantly to become one of the most anticipated association events of the year, with landscape professionals, many of them accompanied by their families, traveling from across the US to participate in this wonderful event.
The team also participates on the annual industry Day on the Hill event - an opportunity to lobby on the Hill and talk to legislators about the issues & challenges green industry companies face.
Renewal and Remembrance Service Day
NALP concludes that projects accomplished to enhance the grounds included:
• 108 acres core aerated,
• 103 acres received lime applications,
• 46 acres received phosphorus,
• 4 trees received lightning protection,
• 3 Irrigation projects completed,
• 1 large retaining wall built, and
• children’s program planted 300 annuals and 15 shrubs at the Mast of the Maine memorial.
Renewal & Remembrance is the largest annual green industry service day in the country. Those who participated gave back the best way they know how – by providing lawn and landscape services to enhance Arlington National Cemetery. This event has grown so much that work is also completed at the United States Soldier’s and Airmen’s Home National Cemetery, located in Washington, D.C. It is one of the oldest national cemeteries and the final resting place for more than 14,000 veterans, including John A. Logan, who established the first Decoration Day observances.
Tom Warfel, Spring-Green Business Consultant, recruited the help from 4 Spring-Green Franchise Owners and their employees & families to help with the event including Jason Jordan of Rockford, IL, Scott Garcia of Raleigh, NC, Chris Casselberry of Baton Rouge, LA and Nick Novellino, of Portsmouth, VA. Ten Spring-Green members joined to help beautify Arlington National Cemetery. Tom is a Marine veteran and served two tours of duty in Afghanistan. He takes it upon himself to make all the arrangements and recruit volunteers to be part of the Spring-Green team.
While we work at the cemetery, you read the names of all the veterans who are buried and many who paid the ultimate sacrifice by giving their lives to protect our freedoms. It is both awe inspiring and humbling to see the rolling hills covered by rows and rows of headstones. Every American should make plans to visit this hallowed ground sometime during their life time. You will leave with a renewed appreciation of the sacrifice that so many gave in service to our country. Spring-Green Lawn Care always looks forward to be a part of this incredible event.
