20th Anniversary of Renewal and Remembrance
20th Anniversary of Renewal and Remembrance
Spring-Green staff traveled to Arlington, VA and joined the industry’s largest day of service at Arlington National Cemetery where they serviced 624 acres. This year marked the 20th anniversary for the National Association of Landscape Professional’s annual Renewal and Remembrance Event.
Industry Professionals came from all across the US where they spent the day beautifying the grounds at Arlington National Cemetery. With over 400 lawn care and landscape professionals from across the US we all joined together to spread 88.6 Acres of turf with phosphorus and aerated another 92.2 Acres of the cemetery. Other projects included the installation and repair of sprinkler systems in designated parts of the cemetery. Several tree care companies also pruned many of the large trees that cover the grounds.
Tom Warfel, Business Consultant for Spring-Green Corp, took it upon himself to recruit more of our Franchise Owners to participate in the event. Tom is a former Marine who served two tours of duty in Iraq, so he is especially attuned to this event. Through his diligent efforts, he recruited 7 Franchise Owners along with their employees and families. They joined 5 Spring-Green corporate staff members to bring the total Spring-Green contingency to 25 people.
Spring-Green was the largest group from a single company.
Completing this work at the cemetery is both awe-inspiring and humbling at the same time. There are over 400,000 graves at the cemetery and there are an average of 30 funerals a day. They range from a small, simple ceremony to one that features a military band, honor guard, horse-pulled caisson and 21-gun salute. As the volunteers work, they must always be respectful when these funerals are taking place and stop working during the ceremony.
The area where the Spring-Green team was working is in a newer section of the cemetery. Newer in the sense that it is the area where the most recent funerals are taking place. I strongly recommend that every American take the time to visit Arlington National Cemetery, pay respect to the men and women who have served in the military that has made America the land of the free and the home of the brave.
Spring-Green has been a proud participant of Renewal and Remembrance since its inception 20 years ago. To view more pictures of Spring-Green staff at the event, visit the Spring-Green Facebook page. For more information on Renewal & Remembrance visit: www.landscapeprofessionals.org
